When I made a comeback to my passion of art back in April 2009, the most challenging task was not painting, it was rather pricing my creativity as an emerging artist.
I seached the web for tips on pricing artwork, but the tips I found were very narrow minded taking few factors into cond=sideration and leaving other important factors out of the equation
I am a mathematician, so I believe there must be an easy formula, a simple function of severale variables that determine the price of an artwork for an emerging artist. Even established artists may benifit from such a formula.
I have started my own research on finding the right factors that have direct impact on pricing an artwork, I'll share with you the following initial list of price factors:
1-Size of the Canvas
2-Number of years of experience
3-Number of exhibitions in established galleries
4-Number of exhbitions in established meusems
5-Number of awards
6-Number of international recognition
7-Number of sold artwork
8-Hourly length an artwork takes from Inception to Glazing
9-Quality: number of layers
10-Number of established art dealers that promote your art
11-Medium quality
12-Degree of personal attachement to your artwork
I'm still searching for more factors that determine the price of an artwork for an emerging artist, if you would like to make a suggestion, please email me at rmyussef@yahoo.ca
Once the list is exhausted, then a weight should be given to each factor to distinguish their direct impact, for example size should not have the same weight of importance as Quality
My longterm wish is to come up with a simple formula, that can be used interactively on the internet to price an artwork for emerging artists. It should be simple, effective and easy.
